Welcome to the 2021 Cross Country season!

We are looking forward to a great cross country season. We are cleared for a full season with 6 meets. This program is for kids from grades K-8. We are targeting to have 2 practices a week on Monday and Wednesday with meets on the weekend - currently, all are planned for Sundays at 1pm. Like we have in the past, we will train jointly with the CYO Club team.

Running is meant to be fun for kids and we encourage the kids to enjoy themselves. We have some competitive runners but also kids just getting started. Running is something all kids can do, so we encourage you to come out and try. We welcome kids of all ability and experience levels. If your kid has not been into team sports, have them give running a try. You are welcome to come to a few practices with no obligation - let them give it a try and see how they like it -- and then they can register for the full season.

Our goal is to get more kids active and to have fun. We promote a running environment built on enthusiasm, self-belief, hard work, goal setting, determination, good sportsmanship, community awareness and friendship. There?¢????s always a focus on mechanics, efficiency, nutrition, endurance/strength, speed and trail stewardship. We develop runners.

Race Distance

The race distance is based on grade and we usually run the boys and girls separate:

Grades K-2: 400 meters

Grades 3-5: 1500 meters

Grades 6-8: 2000 meters

Practices

We will have practices on Mondays and Wednesdays. We will start with the practices at 6:15-7:15, but will need to adjust as the season goes on based on sunset times. The practice locations will vary, but we will mostly be around the New Rochelle area: Twin Lakes, New Rochelle High School, Webster Ave Nature Study Trail. We will add other locations as needed. Don't worry if you don't know where these are -- I will send out directions when we go to a new place.

Meets

After an incredible 2020 XC season, our partners at St. Augustines in Ossining have approved a FULL SEASON on their STUNNING Hudson River property! God bless Father McSweeney and our friends at SAS. We (like many other schools/programs) were sent scrambling when Van Cortlandt Park shut down to groups last season. Not much has changed this fall, and many schools/programs are still scrambling. We?¢????re blessed. 2021 XC schedule:

Sunday Sept 19 @ 1:00PM

Sunday Sept 26 @ 1:00PM

Sunday Oct 3 @ 1:00PM

Sunday Oct 17 @ 1:00PM

Sunday Oct 24 @ 1:00PM

Sunday Nov 7 @ 1:00PM Championships!

Sunday Nov 14 @ 1:00PM Rain/Makeup date

COVID

In regards to COVID, NY state has determined that cross country is a low risk sport and deemed it okay to practice and compete this year. We will send out the COVID guidelines separately as we get started. Please be patient as these things change and we are subject to the guidance we receive.

You can find more details on the meets, distances and the COVID protocol on the CYO page: http://www.cyony.org/Page.asp?n=77348&org=cyony.
